They do it in some other sports and that way there won't be any arguments AFTERWARDS!! The 4th ref has a tv with instant replays... he can even tell the main ref with his wireless headset... no trouble at all!

There is too much passion in football for referees to be making wrong calls. I think the time is long due for FIFA to introduce a 4th referee who will be watching replay before important decisions like Penalty and Red card and some funny call are made. Until that is done, weaker teams will have to suffer from some of these referees who think too highly of some nation that others. This world cup would have been far better if instant replay had been introduced. The referees are killing the game and swinging the wins the wrong way and that upset me. Its a pain to go out in a world cup on wrong calls.

YES< i was thinking about it, except they should have one ref on the field, two sideline refs, and SIX refs on the side watching the play from the four corners, and the halfway line. That would solve all of the cheating problems that the Italians inflict. I mean, why don't they do it? they have the technology. I don't think that it would slow it down, if they were all connected they could just say o that was a foul, or no, that wasn't a foul, or that was a dive. That would solve all of the problems about the Italians and the mexicans and heaps of other teams from diving. I mean, people say that o the ref is only human and he makes mistakes and that you need to be a good sport, especially when people talk about the aussie games. But that is an example when you need mulitple refs. most of the refs hate the small guys and even though they try not to be biased, they can't call that well. Also, in contrary to stopping the rythm of the game, it would keep the rythm going. How many games have you seen in which a player falls down just to stop an opportunity from the opposite team? I have seen it many times. The players just walk out, and, 10 seconds lter, they are back in. I also think that if a player goes out for injury, they should stay out for 10 minutees. It would not be a problem if the player was really injured, but if he wasn't injured, then it would be detrimental to his team if he went down. Becuase every time a player is injusred, the ref stops the play. That is horrible for the rythm of the game but it is a tactic used for many teams. It would greatly improve fußball. At the moment, it has gone down the drain and after every single game in this world cup, except when the aussies beat the japanese, I have come home very mad. Becuase of the horrible refing. It needs to get better or no one will watch it any more.

This is a horrible idea. It is bad enough having to watch slow contrived imitations of FOOTball. It would take hours and hours for a game to be played. There would be no flow no rhythm. You might as well play a video game.
It is about time supporters and players got over themselves and stopped expecting game officials to be perfect. A player can miss a goal and it is "oh that was bad luck" or insert any other pathetic excuse. But a person with the guts to be in the middle and stand for something other than his own glory and sponsorship dollars is expected to be perfect. I get angry at the refs also, but come on the players miss far more tackles, kicks at goal and passes than a ref could ever miss free kicks. Games are never decided by a bad refereeing decision. They are decided with 90 minutes of players and referees making right decisions and bad decisions. That is what makes sport exciting, the honest humanness of the whole event. And if you can't handle this just go back to getting your thrills from a contrived and fake imitation of life in a video game.

I hope that they "get with the times", and start using instant replay in the next World Cup. It would definitely help keep the game cleaner...

I'm just not sure it's going to convince the traditionalists or a few corrupt officials. But good idea about using the wireless headset.

How about also getting a proper time clock and actually stopping it when the ball is out of play? Soccer may be popular but the way its; officiated and run is backwards.

Rugby does that as does American and Canadian football but those are forward-looking sports. Even hockey and basketball use insatnt replay on certain goal/no-goal or shot clock violations.

OMG! They have to do those challenge plays like football. My Korea lost becuase of that stupid ref (ELIZONDO Horacio). The assistant referee called offiside, but the referee said no. How stupid is that! I hate the referees this year in the world cup.

Interesting, however, it would turn into another American tv run sport...slow. Made for tv. Maybe refs should no be so gullable...ingnore players who roll around. I think the only thing that would call for video is fouls...ar fake fouls...geeze !!!
