Ahahaha. That's the best slacker cop-out yet. Get a job and get out of your parents house, bum.

Never mind urban sprawl - adult children should live with their parents if all of their incomes are needed to keep the house going; if a parent is ill and needs care; if the child is ill, and if either the parents or the child want to save money for their futures.

Adult children might be happier and still avoid contributing to urban sprawl by moving out and sharing an apartment or house with a couple other adult children. Less stress, affordable, and no need to build another house.

The only reason I could think of for an adult to continue living with his parents would not be to cut down on urban sprawl but to cut down on the amount of rent he would have to pay......

I have 3 adult children and 2 live with me for now but the third will be back soon. why do I know this because it is too hard to make it out there on their own. as long as they follow the rules and contribute to the household then I feel they should be allowed to live at home. either way things are still brought into the community with food and recreation. Although I am sure there are plenty of adult children that can make it on their own (good luck to them) also 2 of my adult children are new to being adults but I could not kick them out because of their age.

I can speak from both ends of the spectrum-as the kid:my husband and I lived with my in-laws for nine years and two kids until we could afford our own house. As the parent of three, one who is an adult with a child and one who will be 18 very shortly (the youngest has some time at home left): Get Out of my house now!

It works in Asian countries, and eventually we are going to be forced into it whether we like it or not.
