My baby girl is 8 months old and she is very constipated. She had 3 enema's already and she doesn't want to eat she's teething now and I don't know if it's the teething or something else she eats baby food nothing else and she does drink water. How can I help her. It's been going on for 2 weeks now and she has been to the doctor 3 times. They just keep giving her an enema. I'm still breastfeeding 3 times a day. But now all she wants is the breast and not eat. What is wrong?

You should start giving her fruits now. Try giving her some mashed ripe banana. This is very helpful in passing motions. If she doesn't have with a spoon you can take some in your fingers, gently open her mouth with one finger and put it into her mouth. You can also give her some diluted fruit juices like orange or apple in between while giving her water. My 10 month old used to refuse all food including solids when I began weaning and was hooked to the breast. The moment she saw something being prepared for her she would start wailing for the breast. I had a very tough time initially. Even now she is a fussy eater when it comes to baby food. But is always ready for the breast anytime anywhere. Her motions were not very tight as I kept giving her mashed fruits and vegetableseveryday. Now she has got used to the idea that she cannot escape her daily share of fruits and veggies.
And it is not very good to depend on enemas very much. I wait for two days in case she doesn't have motions and by the third day it would all come out automatically. Its good to continue giving her breastmilk as it will help her alot.

Honey, calm down now and listen o.k.? Just put a teaspoon of Karroo syrup in a bottle of water in the morning when she wakes up and again after her nap. She will like the taste and will drink it for you. It is a natural laxative and it is much more plea sent than a enema. A baby can sense when you are upset and it affects their little body allot. another thing you can do is feed her fruit . another thing that works sometimes is a warm bath. an infant suppositories will work too but it is better to try the other rem-ides first.

An enema for a newborn? Your poor girl! I have an 11 mo. old that did the same thing...only took formula, then she only took food.
My pediatrician suggested mixing 1 oz. of Gerber prune juice in her bottle. It does the trick and I keep some extra on hand just in case.
Since you are nursing, I would try just one of those 4oz. pre-measured Gerber bottles in the baby food section. Just pour an ounce in a bottle and give it to her. I hope that this helps and that your little girl feels better very soon!

Ok well my daughter has the same problem now they make baby food with purnes in them you can try that or we give her just a little bit of cranberry jucie very very dulided that might work too. And if your dr doesnt try other things than just that i would get a new dr i dont think you should do things like that to a child that small. Good luck we had a lot a problems with this too so i feel your pain.

Probably nothing. Try supplementing her on prune juice, even if you have to syringe her a teaspoon at a time. Constapation can be tricky in small ones, keep checking to see if her stomach gets hard, if it does it's time to go back to the dr. If her constipate is lower down, in her bowel, you can stimulate her with a q-tip and some vasoline. Sometimes the bowel/colon is larger then the anus and she just might not be able to pass it.
If she's explicitely breast feeding, change your diet, maybe you're getting too much iron and she's getting bound up from it. Hang in there.

You could possibly give her Fleet's infant glycerin suppositories (which is safe for someone that age) but that may not eb the main issue.
How often did you have to give the enemas? Were they the pediatric ones, or mineral oil ones? It's possible that you may not want to treat this at home and page your pediatrician. Actually I would page the pediatrician before you did anything else.

If she's constipated water, karo syrup and prune juice will move things along. If you give her a suppository it will help stimulate a bowl movement, but she still may need a little help getting it out. If she isn't having a bowl movement for 3 or more days then yes she's constipated, ask your doctor about increasing her fiber intake. My son struggles with his bowl movements ( for about 1 year now), he goes everyday but it is very hard and very big and he can't pass it, if this is your case then when she is going pump her legs back and forth, when it start coming out, and it gets stuck, gently press on either side of her rectum and this will help "pop" it out. Hope this helps.

Get a fresh food feeder(by Munchkin) and put some cut up prunes in it and freeze give it to her to help her teeth and she will suck the laxative prunes through the mesh bag.Feed her prune baby food, if she won't eat with a spoon put it in a bottle with a little water and snip the end and give it to her that way

that is a lot of enemas first of all second try and change your food that u eat since u r breast feeding she is getting what u eat i would try a little apple juice diluted or even prunes. If u catch her trying to poop help her do not stick anything in her rear it can hurt your baby just bend legs at knees and push up toward chest and try and help baby poop it out I had that problem with my daughter and we ended up having to help just open buttocks and push next to hole to help it out not on or in hole u can hurt baby very much. (wear gloves it can get messy :) )

You could try giving her a teaspoon of fennel tea or colled water that has been boiled before each feeding.
You can buy a jar of baby prune puree or apple sauce to get her moving too.
Did your doctor not tell you that it is normal for some babies to poo as little as once a week?
