I'm being over run by june bugs. My 3 year old won't even go in the backyard when the sun starts to set. Do the candles that kill mosquito's work to kill june bugs? I am not too keen on raid-ing them to death... all the pesticide can't be good for the kids. Any help would be appreciated.

I love June Bugs. But if you must, my son in law had a Zapper, and they kill themselves. Kind of like Kamikazi style. They are attracted to light. Play games in the dark with flashlights, and maybe the June Bugs will go to your neighbors house. June bugs don't hurt. They just have funny little barbs on their legs. Have your son hold one, and then he can learn to appreciate nature, rather than fear, and kill it.

I have the same problem here in Michigan up north. I still cant seem to find anything that works. Im considering getting a bug zapper, I have heard they work well for the big bugs. Good luck.

You could try beetle traps. Here's a link to a site that has pictures of them: http://www.rescue.com/Products/Japanese_Beetle_Trap.asp

Your local garden supply store probably carries them, too. I've heard they're pretty effective.
