I still enjoy playing the game for many reasons.
1. As a judge/tournament organizer/deam team leader I get to help kids, teenagers, other adults get into the game. Which will help with math, reading, social skills. Families tend to join into the game which keeps them closer, solid family fundation.
2. When I judge in tournaments I make sure to keep the game fair, enjoyable for all. So they want to come back to the given place that is holding an event at the time.
3. It keeps kids, teenagers, some adults out of the street and in trouble. Gives something for people to do.
4. It gives me the chance to get out of my apartment (which I spend too much time alone in),improve my social and interpersonal interactions.
5. You can develop friendships through common interest. IE: Yu-Gi-Oh!
I guess...the reason why for some it's turning gay or lucksacking. Is due to every 6 months the banned/restricted list changes and additions. Some cards that were hard to get at the time become banned, while at the same time they get reprinted and become eaiser for other players to get. There are a few out there that still think beginner, novice, intermedate players shouldn't get these cards, still bad players.
Another reason the list sometimes tends to hurt a given deck type or deck theme, which turns off people to quiting the game for 6 months or for good. While the banned/restricted list is going on within the 6 month peroid,a person then tends to figure out what to do next. when that deck is played in either Regionals,Nationals,Shonen Jump Championship tournaments some tend to see this deck online, netdeck it. Then more people do it and you'll tend to see more of the same deck, expect for 3-4 card differance. This tend gets a few players to say the deck is "jank" when they get beaten by the same deck they've made or netdecked and claiming it as there own idea.
Otherwise...as a judge it makes me feel good helping others and making a differance. As a player it gives me something to do,other than just sleeping and being alone in my apartment most of the time (due to having depression and BPD).
It's just my observation and personal experiance.

The american YGO: Duel Monsters & either version of GX are gay. The game isn't gay. Its Konami of Japan and Upper Deck thats gay. They simply don't care about the players in the US or any country other than Japan. There's no cash tournaments, no reward system, and no solid banning system. Banning and unbanning cards is weak. Either they stay or go forever. The banned list is based on what is played in Japan and that doesn't solved problems in the US game. Heck, they banned Makyura The Destructor before he was even released because he was abused in Japan. Grrrr!! Ohhh yeah...most of the sets that have been released since Invasion of Chaos sucked. Cybernetic Revolution and The Lost Millineum are notable exceptions. Luckily, I play MtG, a game where the makers actually listen to players.

i love yugioh! i love collecting the cards and i love the cartoon. to hate on something that kids and adults like is just morally wrong. just look how happy it makes the kids that are playing. it keeps them out of trouble and the holographic cards are worth money. i think it's a damn good hobby, hate on something else...

Never tried it, but you should try Magic Online, it's a blast. Also a card game.
