Please explain (with real statistics and logic, not religion) why gay people should not be allowed to marry. Frankly, I don't see any good reason, and I'd like to know why people who don't want gays to marry think as they do. Or do y'all not think and just hide in homophobia and pseudo-religious propaganda?
I've yet to see anyone make a logical debate against gay marriage, and I'm sick to death of "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve."

Oh, and to clarify a point of reproduction to those of you that may need it:
Only about 10% of the world is gay, so it will NOT be the end of humanity because reproduction will be impossible. If anything, there are too many people on Earth.
Also, people can now utilise artificial insemination, surrogate mothers, or, of course, adopt where it is legally permissable.

There is no logical reason. Hate, driven by ignorance, is never logical. That's not to say that everyone who doesn't believe gays should marry is ignorant or hateful, but it is certainly an important factor.
I think that people will not allow gays to marry because they are afraid that if they allow people that are not like them to have civil rights, they will lose their position of power in society and their self-worth will be compromised, a la 1984.

All arguments against legal provisions / protections afforded through the simple procedure of civil marriage for Gays and Lesbians are fueled and driven by nothing other than sheer insanity.
I call it insanity because there are NO reasons based upon the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth -- NONE, NADA, NUNCA, ZERO -- in the real world that can, without any doubts and loopholes, validate the righteousness of their objections.
Shall I indulge with claims that I'll bet stand more strongly to reason?
Same sex couples have done admirable jobs leading children to adulthood, and many hetero-couples have done damnable jobs at such. Do you want to make it a numbers game and start citing statistics? I dare you to do so, and be complete about it!
Same sex couples have NEVER threatened the universe's population of the human species, and it never will. It's quite daunting, I would say, to witness the plights of the hungry due to so much scarcity produced due to so much pro-creating of so many communities on this planet. Get a clue!
Same sex marriages -- although not legal, but dedicated nonetheless -- have never -- NEVER -- imparted any damage ("undermined") to any marriage anywhere in our universe. Levels of response ability (my play on words) remain solidly intact.
Who the hell cares about how it all was done 1000 years ago? We don't do a LOT of things the way they were done 1000 years ago? Humans have implemented LOTS of changes -- abolishing slavery, women right to vote, age of voting rights, etc -- in the last 150, 100, 50 years. Even many religious beliefs have been changed to accommodate new knowledge.

Logically Gays should not be allowed to marry because they cant wear white at their weddings...religion is a strong foundation of our country and every other country ...so no matter how much logic there is to support Gay marriage there still needs to be a strong and forceful separation of church and state and that goes for elected government officials bringing religion into the forum of our government, otherwise the Church should start forking up the taxes and past taxes too or keep their mouths shut in what the government should say and the rights under the Constitution.
I have to strongly agree with ckswife-only on the point of religious sanctions. However, I know many families and friends who have been raised by two parent households mother and father and they are very much screwed up in the head, dad was an alcoholic or mother was, father abused them or beat them, father sexually abused them or mother beat them, dad was distant emotionally, mom was, dad cheated on mom, etc. I was raised with my brother by my mother only and have to say I am very thankful for it, had my father been part of my life who knows what kind of-bums we would have become. A family does not consist of a mother and father, but of a caring supportive nurturing loving parent, whether that be one or two , male /female or female/female or male/male, love and honesty is the key not the gender of the parents.

I personally do not have a problem with gays being allowed to marry. If two people are in a committed relationship and they love each other then they should be allowed to live their lives the way THEY see fit. Not the way the government or religious heads deem "normal". I would hate if someone got up on their high horse and tried to tell me how I was supposed to live my life and who would be a better partner for me.
The media frequently reports that 50% of American marriages will end in divorce. This number appears to have been derived from very skimpy data related to a single county or state. However, it appears to be reasonably close to the probable value.
I have known homosexual couples and heterosexual couples and I can honestly say that there are more divorces among my heterosexual friends then my homosexual ones.

it's got nothing to do with fear, it's more of a why do they want to get married when they can just live together or whatever. Marriage is in ppl's minds still a heterosexual thing. So gay marriage talk is shattering their beleifs. I think that for ppl who are against gay marriage it's hard enough to have so many unsolved mysteries and having something else to worry about is just too much...not too say too soon. I think that maybe overtime ppl will finally get over their "fears"...it will just take some time like everything else in the world.

The only "logical" reason is that people are scared of anything that challenges their global belief system; why should this cause them to be scared? According to terror management theory, our belief system protects us from the awareness of death - thus threatening someones belief system will make awareness of death more salient (which is aversive). Obviously, this is not a conscious process. This theory is born out of empirical findings.
To "Julia" below - there is a MAJOR difference between homosexuality and the disorders that you mention - homosexuality involves consentual sex between two adults - the others (animals, children, etc.) aren't capable of consent, making those type of relationships criminal. Also, considering you are in an interracial relationship (looking at your Question history), I'd think you would have more compassion - after all, it wasn't too long ago that society placed interracial relationships in the same domain that homosexual relationships are in now.

As a Christian I see no reason why homosexuals should not have a legally sanctioned civil union and be given survivors benefits, insurance benefits, communal property etc. What I don't believe is that they should be given or demand the benefit and sanction of a Judeo-Christian sacred service and I am sick to death of being scorned because I will not stretch my ethnic and spiritual heritage to accomodate them for fear of being branded narrow minded and politically incorrect. I furthermore do NOT believe that it is in the best interest of children to be raised by same sex parents. I was raised without a father by two women - my mother and grandmother. I cannot begin to explain the lack of dimension I have in dealing with men because I did not have a male role model while growing up. Homes without a father AND a mother are certainly common but they are NOT IDEAL. Every child deserves a maximumally nurturing, BALANCED (yin-yang) environment in which to grow up. NO ONE will EVER convince me that two mommies or two daddies is maximally healthy for children no matter how nice they are.

If you think about it logically, it could possible be the end of mankind as we know it. Because how can one man get another man pregnant or a woman get another woman pregnant. If the world is made up of people of the same sex who wishes to get together then there will eventually become a time when there is no one around anymore because there is no more procreation due to childbirth because there won't be any period. If you don't think that's logical then you're lost...........

For the same reason that a would-be incest committer shouldn't be allowed to marry his sister.
For the same reason that a would-be polygamist shouldn't be allowed to marry five women at once.
For the same reason that a pedophile shouldn't be allowed to marry a little girl.
For the same reason that one prone to bestiality shouldn't be allowed to marry a horse.
For the same reason that a bisexual bigamist shouldn't be allowed to marry a man and a woman at once.
In other words -- marriage need not be utterly redefined in order to suit every "alternative sexual lifestyle" out there.

There really isn't any logical argument against gay marriage. Usually it's people quoting the Bible or saying it's icky.
Answering pootfart3: There'd still be straight people that have sex and have babies. In my opinion, the earth would be better off without people anyways.
