The best gift i was given after i had my baby boy was the night gown/ bag that the baby sleeps in. I was given one and then went to the store and bought a ton more. There something that you dont think youll need but once you have a baby youll beg for them.

It is best that you ask the mother or father what they need but the best thing I can think of bringing when going to visit a newborn is a caserole for the new parents so they can relax and recover from the babies birth and enjoy there newborn or you can ask them what you can do around the house to help out. Remember that in the early days the baby is still bonding with its parents and there are lots of people who visit and interfere with the bonding process without meaning to.

Little onsies or body suits are nice because they keep the diaper in place.
But most mothers have enough stuff for their babies and, more than gifts, could use some help! Bringing a dish for lunch or supper is especially helpful. Remember, babies need happy and healthy mothers more than anything. So if you help the mother, it is the greatest gift you can give to any baby.

I am a new Mom and one of the best gifts I received was a small, toddler size, wicker clothes basket full of things that you use DAILY, so I didn't have to run out and get them all the time when I was so sleep deprived.
The basket had lotion, diaper rash cream (OK, you don't use this daily, but it was nice to have some on hand), shampoo, baby wash, disposable washcloths, baby wipes, diapers, Q-tips, cotton balls, lap pads, and a few receiving blankets.
It all depends on how much you want to spend, but I think that any new parent would love getting things that they are going to need on a routine basis...it saves them a lot of time!

It's usually a safe idea to give a small stuffed animal or baby blanket. Some parents like to receive bottles, bibs, rattles that type of thing. Stay away from clothing as not all babies are same size even when first born doesn't mean a small would fit...

I don't feel you have to take anything to visit the newborn If you gave a gift at the baby shower.

Go to the Dept.Store and go to the Baby Aisle and look for RECEIVING Blankets...they come 4 or 5 to a package.
These blankets are smaller than normal baby blankets, about the size of a small towel.
The colors will be for both boys and girls.
Ya can't go wrong.
P.S. Go to Walmart they are not expensive.

Diapers is always a good thing. Also, you may want to get the mother something that would be relaxing to her (a manicure or massage), if you can't think of anything to bring the baby.
