When ovulation occurs, for about 5 days each month a woman is able to get pregnant. Ovulation occurs on average 12-16 days before the menstrual period begins. So, ovulation occurs on about day 10 of a 24-day menstrual cycle, day 14 of a 28-day cycle, or day 21 of a 35-day cycle. So the thing to becoming pregnant or preventing pregnancy, is knowing your ovulation cycle. Another thing that few people know is that sperm has a life span of around 3-5 days in the reproductive tract of a woman, so it is possible to become pregnant even if intercourse had occured around 3-5 days prior to ovulation. It is wise to know how to calculate your cycle to be more aware of when to be more careful, and, of course, a back-up method such as condoms, birth control, etc. are always a good idea when you are trying to prevent pregnancy.

what!? During ovulation is the MOST likely time to get pregnant (around day 14 of a woman's cycle) because this is the time a new egg is being produced. A woman can get pregnant any time during her cycle, including during her period. The percentage is highest during ovulation.

I would say about 48hrs after ovulation, I do not trust doing it before ovulation. But abstinence and protected sex is best.
