You're really smart to start good habits before getting pregnant and having a baby! Eating healthier isn't very complicated and there are plenty of places to get information about sensible eating.
The first thing I'd do would be to cut down on sugary or diet sodas and start drinking more water instead. Just this has a very positive effect on your health, from the visible benefits to your skin, to helping you to control your blood sugar and weight.
After that it will be a matter of eating well. You can look at these sites for information:
http://www.health.gov/dietaryguidelines/dga2005/healthieryou/contents.htm
http://www.diabetes.org/nutrition-and-recipes/nutrition/healthyfoodchoices.jsp
(This site has good information for people without diabetes as well as for diabetics.)
Good luck!

Keep your calories low and your fat intake low.I have personally lost 10lbs so far by keeping my calorie intake at 1200-1500 and fat less than 30 grams a day. I have also given up regular soda and drink only diet and just limit that to 1 diet soda a day with the rest water water and more water. Eat fresh fruits and veggies and baking food is just as good as the bad fried stuff. Just make sure you season it well and it will be fine. Take maybe every couple of months but not every week been there done that too. Hope this helps some and good luck!! Here is a really great support site it is for anybody anysize any situation great support from all the girls on there!!

I used to be a fast food junkie, I slowly weaned myself by drinking LOTS of water and replacing french fries with really yummy salads that have lots of stuff like spinach, bacon bits, feta cheese and red onion, I top it off with a homemade balsamic vinegar dressing. Change your habits, one at a time, if you drink a lot of carbonation or caffeine, tell yourself that you can have a coke only after you have had double the water. You will find that if you make youself take care of your healthy needs first but still give yourself the option of a treat later, you will eventually lose the craving for the crap. It did not take me a long time but now without the crap, I feel much better all the way around. Your body (and your future baby) will thank you.

If you're thinking of having a baby:
-Quit caffeine, cigarettes, booze, drugs, some prescriptions (ask doctor which ones).
-Try to limit your salt and sugar now - because you're going to have a lot of cravings later.
-Eat a lot of veggies and fruits
-Cut down on soda, but drink lots of water and juice
-Start drinking milk and eating cheese, yogurt, etc.
-Eat non-sugary cereals
-Stay off the fried food and take-out
-Try to keep snacks and desserts healthy
-Stick to proper portion sizes of meats and the bread group
Good luck!

Vegetables, vegetables, and some fruit. Any dark green veggie is the best - broccoli, spinach - raw or cooked ... asparagus and zucchini, cabbage, green beans. Sweet potatoes are great. Blueberries and grapefruit .. pineapple and canteloupe. Salmon, baked fish, and lettuce (iceberg is the lowest in nutrients and vitamins) - romaine or spinach. Moderation is the key everywhere. Good luck, sweetie.

I'd suggest checking out weight watchers. They have a nice education program that teaches people who to select and prepare healthy meals and thier local meetings can be really supportive.

Just look on the back of everything you buy at the grocery store... If it has no fat or low amounts of fat... Then you're good.
Eat more fiber and protein, it'll make you feel fuller, and full easier.
