if the pain is gone, i suppose you sprained it a while ago.
when your not walking around, keep your leg up above your chest, you need to drain the fluid out of your leg.
ice wont help now, its too late. untill you drain it off, every time you walk around it will fill up again.

Depends on the person. Usually about a week (5-7 days). Make sure you ice it for 20 min. a few times a day. You can also put it in an ice bath. Another thing you can do, is to make a flat bag of ice (crushed works best, suck the air out of the bag so it forms to your ankle) and wrap it on with a pressure wrap, and elevate it above the heart. This helps squeeze the fluid out and away from the area. I saw this many times as a trainer.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

it can take up to about 2 weeks that is how long it took with mine i sprained both about 3 months apart and it took one about 3 months to get better and had to be put in a cast, the other is still messed up after over one year. take cair of it do the ice and elevation stuff try to stay off it. if it is swollen for longer then a week or so then you need to see a Dr there might be a problem with circulation

depends how badly swollen and how much you are walking on it - had a very badly sprained ankle years ago - issues with swelling for more than 2 weeks (didn't know I shouldn't walk on it) - as a result, took a few years before it was back to where it should be

Make sure you do not exert too much pressure on your ankle. And apply heat to help.
I sprained my ankle badly, but, refuse to not miss out on some golden surf opporunities. Each surf i have been on, i have hurt it again and it has now been 3 weeks. Ouch!

Keep your foot elevated (higher than your heart), alternate ice and heat 30 minutes for each. Swelling should go down in 5-7 days.

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS ICE THE SWOLLEN ANKLE IN ICE WATER...LIKE A BUCKET FULL OF IT FOR 2O MINS. THIS WILL HELP THE SWOLLENESS TO GO DOWN VERY RAPIDLY.
BUT I WOULD SAY 3-4 DAYS..IF LONGER..GO TO THE HOSPITAL...

probably about 3 to 4 days depends upon how much you are up on it and how bad you sprang it. It can bother you for months just depends upon your body size and how often you stand on it or walk on it.

Anywhere from a few hours to a couple of weeks. Sorry I can't be more specific, I'd need more details.
