Why do people doom themselves to repeat historical mistakes? Some of them so bad I would have never thought it could have been repeated, but it seems to have been.

Intellegance has NOTHING to do with this question as much as common since in not repeating something learned.
Are we just not aware that we are sometimes not as smart as our predecessors?

Those who claim Bush is Adolf Hitler obvioulsy do not know history at all! You would be the ones I am refering this question about.
Please read about Hitler and what his reign was about. Compare it to what Iraq was doing. It should look familier.
Bush is acting just like Winston Churchill did then. Took on Hitler!

I think about this all the time. It seems a lot of people on here and in general don't seem to know anything about history, or even what happened as short as 10 years ago. People seem to get all their information from the news and not any non biased historical sources.

It's partially human nature to believe we're so better or smarter than previous generations. But, these days, the primary culprit is our public school system. There's nothing going on there. A lot of indoctrination into Bush hating, but not much else.

I agree... I am actually afraid that once the U.S. starts to pull it's troops out Iraq, I mean we can't stay there in force forever (a base or two, sure but not in numbers enough to have an effect)... it's going to start to turn into a theocracy, much like Iran in the 70s... perhaps after a civil war...

I mean if they elect a theocracy, what can we say... democracy has spoken and it won't be in our favor...

history does not repeat itself. The events that make up history are uneick(sp) to themselves and the time in which they happen. History is dynamic it that sense. I well say there seems to be themes that run through history. Historians do not usually make life altering decisions. Politicians do that. And most can't see pass the next election.

No, most of us aren't as smart as you. Sorry.

I love it when American dogsh*ts call Bush Hitler. The more the better. It means they're doomed next election, and another Republican will win the Presidency. Their own mouths are digging their poltical graves.

It is a shame people have forgotten parts of history. Many things could have been learned from mistakes of the past.

Unfortunately people believe themselves to be more intelligent and worldly than their predecessors and don't believe they truly are making the same mistakes. Historically aware or not.

A smart man learns from his mistakes. A wise man learns from the mistakes of others. A fool learns nothing.

Because people simply forget through ignorance and troubles of their world. If they didnt forget, history would never repeat itself and you would not be asking this question.

It's not that they forget it -- it's that they don't learn it. The same mistakes occur over and over because too many people have no knowledge of history.
