Well, the first thing to do is to change your sleep pattern a bit, try getting to bed sooner at night so you're not tired after school every day.
Until you're awake after school you'll have trouble with the next step...Do your homework as soon as you get home, everything you've learned in the day should be fresh in your mind and you'll remember little things the professor told you that will help answer the questions.
Dinner at 6 to 7 is a good recharge, if you're not done your homework by then, have a good meal and a study break for an hour or so, eat and watch Jeopardy or whatever you want for half an hour or so, just to give your mind a little break and talk to the family about their day.
If you finished your homework, enjoy the rest of your night, if not just finish up and then do whatever you want afterwards, try to get about 7 to 8 hours of sleep, more than that is actually not good for you. so if you get up at 6, get to bed at 10 or 11.
Now, if you've joined any extra-curricular groups, you'll have to do homework after you're done with the sport or art group you're involved with, but you'll start noticing you have more and more energy as you go.
A little about me so you know I'm not pulling your leg, I had great grades in grade 9, they fell a bit in grade 10 and 11 because I strayed away from what I had been doing in the 9th (my homework) then I realized, I wanted to be a nurse and wasn't nearly coming close to my potential, I graduated on the honour role, got a bachelor's degree in Human Kinetics and am now working toward my second degree in Nursing, I have a B+ average in University all because I realized how to use my time appropriately. And by the way, the better grades you get in high school, the more money the government will give you to go to any University you want (ask your teachers) and that will make everything a little easier on your parents and yourself as far as the rising cost of attending school is concerned. Good Luck in your next year of school. Good luck with the straight A's.

Great question Rose! I teach high school math, but I was a slacker in high school, so let me give you my opinion...assuming you are not currently working, which it sounds like you are not. Also, I'm assuming you are not in any after school clubs, since you didn't mention it.

Before we go to schedule...let me just say that there shouldn't be any reason why you can't make the honor roll. High school isn't normally all that tough, you just gotta learn how to jump through the hoops. And college is the same.

The first thing you are gonna have to can is the late bedtimes. You can't focus in class with so little sleep. You might think you can, but that is the first thing that is hurting you. So set a bedtime, and stick to it. I don't see why 10pm would be unreasonable, so let's shoot for that. To help you along with that goal, you should be waking up early on the weekends. If you sleep until noon, that throws your schedule to wack. That's what I do during the summer!!

Do your hw after school, while it is still fresh in your mind. So maybe 4-6 (or until dinner). That way if there is still some stuff to do, you can do it after dinner. Then maybe watch some tv if you need to...but I recommend going for a walk/bike/jog...something to burn your dinner calories, and get you a little sleepy. Trust me, there is nothing of quality on tv anymore...it is pretty much all trash. To bed by 10, and maybe wake up early and watch the morning fitness programs. If you do some morning workouts, that will get the blood flowing, and that will increase your brain activity so that you can get more from your classes.

I think the most important thing is that you are really, really hurting yourself with the night owl routine. Kick that habit first, no matter what. Also means that you can't really be a night owl on Friday and Saturday either, cuz that destroys any schedule you are trying to maintain.

Hopefully some of this is useful. I wish you the best of luck, and applaud you for wanting to get good grades! You can do it...it just takes a little personal motivation on your part!!

I would suggest hitting the books as soon as you get home. This is the best time because the work will still be fresh in your mind. It's also good to have a nutritious snack handy, also. If you have a very long study session, make sure to take a 15 minute break or so after each hour or two. You will not be able to concentrate or absorb the information properly, otherwise. Also, you definitely should make sure to get a good night's sleep. 12-1 is too late for a school-aged teen to be staying up. 10:30 should be the latest for your age. Stick with these, and I think you will see and feel some improvements. Best of luck!

Well, I think that if you want to be on the honor roll, you will need to make a few changes to your typical schedule. Maybe even manipulate it a little bit. Nothing too drastic. For starters, go to bed earlier because you might not need that 6pm nap. You might even choose to spread out some of your homework. For instance, when you get home from school, take an hour off to watch tv or relax. Then, after that hour, do part of your homework. Just part. After dinner, choose another subject to do homework/study. Don't just wear yourself out by studying though. Take time to relax. It's up to you to create a schedule to fit all of your needs, but I hoped that I helped with some or your choices.

I graduated with honors and my schedule was kinda like this:
Wake up at 6 get ready, go to school. On days with tests, I would do a quick scan on the subject while eating breakfast. When I got out of school, I would get home around 5. I would get a snack and relax about 30 minutes and get my homework done. Dinner was usually ready a little after I was done. Then I would watch TV and go to bed between10 and 11.

Homework is a soreness interior the ***, even with the incontrovertible fact that that's well worth it and the consequences of no longer doing it are low grades, low self-worth, hating college, offended mum and dad, and awkwardness around instructors. the appropriate difficulty to do is do purely the homework. do no longer attempt to think of, "I shouldn't..." or doubt your self - do purely it! you may desire to be sensible approximately it, do the homework it quite is maximum extreme first, go away the little issues for final, take widespread breaks, no eating whilst working as that's distracting, NO television till you're thoroughly executed.

When you get home, get some exercise first. Play outside or enjoy an hour or so of free time or with friends. Start your home work, earlier, rather than later. It is important that you have a set time, establish a routine with your homework. Get to bed early.

15? I guess you're old enough for this secret...

COFFEE

It'll give you that energy to study.

If you get C's and dont study, think about what you can do if you just study for 20 minutes. Make a game out of it, see how much you can improve your memory.

I'm in college now, I can memorize things after reading looking at it a few times.
