Global warming is a fact. Whether we are causing it and whether it can be prevented are the issues of debate. The reduction of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere may stop the process although the warming may be occuring regardless of our activities. Businesses do not want to spend the money it will take to reduce these emissions because of the cost involved and the President is reluctant to promote legislation because these businesses are his main constituency in terms of financing as well as the main financiers of the Republican party. The Democrats are more willing to promote the reforms because these businesses do not support them to the same degree. Its all about money. From what I am hearing from Al Gore, the scientists who are not in a position to be bought are stating that reduction of the CO2 emissions would help alleviate the warming process. Most european and asian countries are in accord with this view as well as Brazil in South America. We need someone in office who will do what is right for the environment regardless if it costs these businesses and ultimately consumers more money for energy. Enforced reductions would certainly hurt the economy in the US. This issue should be approached with the utmost scrutiny without political bias. If we are causing the global warming, we need to seriously look at what we can do to stop or reverse the process. While I am not necessarily for action which will harm the economy, it sounds like pay now or pay more later.

it is not Bush and the current leaders' fault. Fossil fuels do not help slow global warming, but it is largely out of our control. We should conserve fuel however. Not adopting the Kyoto Protocol was a smart move for the US, as it would have cost our economy trillions of dollars. Europe had already begun reducing emissions when the Kyoto protocol went into effect, so they had a head start.
The hydrocarbons in the atmosphere now are from 50 years ago to those from the present. It is not an instant effect, nor an instant fix.
If you look at thousands of years of temperatures, we are right where we should be, heading towards a warmer Earth, which happens before the onset of an ice age in about 1000 years - give or take a few thousand years.

It isn't Greenland that's melting, it's the glaciers. And they're melting all over the world. The polar ice caps are melting. The entire process is speeding up dramatically. The world leaders don't want to have to respond because a proper response would demand more sacrifice than humankind is willing to make. Too few people realize the danger, and by the time enough do realize it, it will be too late...in fact, it is very likely it's already too late. Humankind's days on this planet are numbered, and there's noplace to go. How does it feel to realize you're about to become extinct?

It more than likely probably is true. I don't know for a fact but from what I hear, I would lean towards thinking it's true. Global warming sucks. It ruins everything. The reason why Bush and "the leaders" don't stop it? It's caused by oil! They can't stop oil! They will lose all of their money!

I don't belive we're being fully informed about the true condition of Earth's ozone layer...but have you noticed how fast it gets hot outside or how fast you get a sunburn these days????

Polar icecaps are melting at the rate of about an inch a year. So in twelve years, a whole foot of ice from their surfaces will be gone and that insignificant foot may trigger off very strange and devastating weather occurrances.

However, the politically empowered in Washington and pretty much across the planet do not have the technological appreciation or foresight to see how serious the problem really is; it's simply not a hot seat priority for them......yet.

And if want to get "Gaia Philosophical" about it: we are to blame for our planet's ecological problems.

Yes, it is true. Pollution caused by the oil industry and other big companies is the reason. Bush will not lift a finger to stop them because they support him financially. See the movie An Inconvenient Truth for more information.

NO! and what you're not being told, is the fact that our planet goes through warming and cooling stages every few thousand years, thus at present we are experiencing a warming stage in a few select areas of our planet, so please do not be so gullible as to believe the loser that claimed he invented the Internet, as well as the countless other lies that are tossed out into the public for personal agendas.
