I would like to get answers only from women who have experienced pregnancy please. I would like to know if there is a way i can quickly reduce swelling in my feet and ankles. I've tried wrapping them in ace bandages and in ted stockings, i've tried soaking them in warm water, and in cold water. I've tried ice packs, i've tried elevation. They all work but not for long enough, if I start moving around or sit with my feet not up for 15-30 minutes, they start getting swollen again. I swear right now I think they look like a couple of balloons. They are huge. They hurt so bad. It hurts my ankles when I stand. My knees are also swollen. So if you have any ideas at all of what I can do to keep the swelling down that doesn't involve me keeping them wrapped or in water or elevated 24/7 PLEASE let me know. thank you.

Extention on the swollen feet and ankles and knees... Okay, this is a question I just asked, but I need to add more to it. I have already told my ob nurse about it a few times and she only recommended the things I said that I tried. I have been keeping away from the salt intake big time. I very rarely drink anything other then water and I always always have a bottle of water with me. I stay in the house with the air conditioner on and a fan on me at the same time a lot of the time. I have a doctor's appointment on wednesday. What else is there to do until then?

When I was pregnant I always had sudden swelling in my feet, ankles, legs, and hands all the time to the point where it would hurt then go numb. It's not pleasant I know. When I went to talk to my OB doctor about it she made me do bed rest, evaluating my feet, and drink nothing but water, about a gallon a day, and also I was not aloud any salt or other spices in any of my food. My advice to you is go to the doctor ASAP and have them check your blood pressure and sugar, and don't forget to tell them about the sudden swelling and tell them everything that you have tried and none succeeded. Just go get checked.

Ask your doctor, could have toxemia. If you are not at risk, then you will have to wait until after the baby is born. Keep your feet elevated above the heart for a couple of hours using pillows as a wedge.(There should be no gaps between your legs and the pillows for proper support.) If you have the pillows under your legs then you heart will be lower than your feet. I don't think that it is a very good idea to wrap them, you me have blood clots and not know it. Good luck and congratulations with the birth if your new baby. Girl or boy?

unfortunately there isn't a whole lot that you can do. A lot of midwives suggest walking, but I found it made it feel worse. I used to find that making circular movements with my feet would ease it for a little while. My husband used to give me foot rubs also. But none of these are very convenient. Unfotunately, you will probably have to put up with it until you have the baby, and then even then, you will retain some fluid a few days after the baby. If the swelling gets worse, I suggest you go and see your carer as it could be a sign of pre-eclampsia

If your period is not due for another week and a half, it's WAY too early for pregnancy symptoms. Most women ovulate around 14 days before the start of their next period, and then it takes 6-10 days after ovulation/conception for the embryo to implant in the lining of the uterus. Only AFTER it implants will it start to produce HCG (the hormone that causes pregnancy symptoms). If you are still 10 days away from your period, you may have only ovulated 3-4 days ago, so it's WAY too soon. Wait for your period, and take a test if it doesn't arrive when expected. Good luck!

Ohhh I know your pain, I am pregnant too. I just try to take little breaks when I can and put them up for a little while.
I try too keep away from the salt. And I never realized but my doctor said that not drinking enough water can cause you too swell up.
Have you told your doctor? I have never had it so bad that it went up too my knees.

Drink more water. As in never go anywhere without it. Keep off your feet as much as possible. Get to air conditioning and call a doctor.

I agree with storm & naynay, keep them up & definately seek medical attention. It can just be the heat but pre eclampsia is nothing to mess around with. I had it with all 3 of my kids & had strict instructions & regular contact with my OB. Take care~
& yes yes lots of water! I carried a jug of water & supersized TUMS everywhere I went!

Hope your nine months is up soon. You could ask your doctor, it sounds like your blood pressure may be elevated. Even though this is common in pregnancy, if they are swollen as much as you say, your doctor should know
