Let's say I am taking 12 credits this semester, how many hours is that?

It's like he said, credits are the same as hours. Put it like this: I'm guessing you're probably taking 4 classes. If you are then you go to class 12 hours a week. Let's say your 4 classes are on T and R and they each last for 1:15. Even though 1:15+1:15 is 2:30, schools round that up to 3 hours.

Semester credits and semester hours are the same thing. Semester credits to Quarter are 24 Quarter for every 15 Semester. Clock Hours are 675 Clock for every 15 Semester.

Classroom based hours: 16 hours in a classroom for every semester credit.

You are obviously going to school in California. Be aware, most schools outside of CA require 60 credits for transfer from Associate level to Bachelor level, so your degree and many credits will not transfer out of state.
