Could be. The important thing is , if people are interested, they think about it, question it and investigate it. I think that was the point of the book. To get people to be curious and imaginative. Sort of like DaVinci.

Parts of the story are real; places, some people, some items, etc. But Dan Brown has said that the actual story is not true.

HOW MUCH OF THIS NOVEL IS TRUE?
The Da Vinci Code is a novel and therefore a work of fiction. While the book's characters and their actions are obviously not real, the artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals depicted in this novel all exist (for example, Leonardo Da Vinci's paintings, the Gnostic Gospels, Hieros Gamos, etc.). These real elements are interpreted and debated by fictional characters. While it is my belief that some of the theories discussed by these characters may have merit, each individual reader must explore these characters' viewpoints and come to his or her own interpretations. My hope in writing this novel was that the story would serve as a catalyst and a springboard for people to discuss the important topics of faith, religion, and history.

the da vinci code was a great novel and it is possible that some of what occured was true -- although probably not the family being the holy grail, but the secret society and the guardians of 'the grail' probably has some truth. the only reason that I have this opinion is that this society must have had information that would have lessened the power of the church -- since the church 'won' they wrote the history and have squelched the what the society stood for and was trying to protect.

caveat -- i personally believe that religion is not about god, but about power and the retention of that power thru fear.

I have reason to believe yes because think about it the highest church in the land tried to ban it and this is the first time a book/movie has caused so much controversy. Yeah they've hated things before, but never to the point where they have wanted to ban it so that makes you think how much of it is fact and how much is fiction, now I am not saying that there is an Albino monk, but some of the other things could be true when you look at them a bit closer. So I think you should take a closer look, and think about what Dan Brown is trying to say

its a very difficult question to answer. Some people say that some of the things in Da Vinci Code are nothing but fantasy. But i think it is not merely a good book. But historians think that we shouldn't take it seriously.

actually, a good way to present the truth in a way which doesn't get you murdered by the church is to represent it to be fiction. i think there is a good possibility, however, that the "jesus line" is not the merovingians. but, in any event, my information is that he was married, survived the crucifixion, with the help of fellow essene adepts, and did father children, more likely than not with mary magdalene. why not? while he was an enlightened being, definitely, he, like the buddha, was a human, after all. nevertheless, his status as enlightened did confer upon him a "direct transmission of divine wisdom", thus making him like god, in a sense, i suppose. unfortunately, "the church" has a terminally vested interest in maintaining its myths and power, for among other reasons, to further its goal of succeeding with its planned counter-reformation. i hardly think i have a lock on THE truth, but this is where my studies have led me.

Of course. If you believe in the Many World Theory of Physics, the Holographic Universe or String Theory, I'm sure that there are dimensions (universes) where Jesus married. There is no sin in Jesus marrying, after all, he was a man. However, it would most definately have detracted from his carrying his message to the world, so i definately doubt he did. Also, it would have made dying and leaving a family near impossible.

Actually, a lot of it is real. The secret societies did exist, for example. However, that does not mean that anything about Jesus or Mary or God in that book is real. Brown took a little bit of truth, and made it into a conspiracy theory. That's why it's such good fiction.

Some things are real, some are exaggerated, some are outright made up, and some are factual errors. The hallmark of good fiction is to make imagination seem real and blur the distinction between fiction and reality.

I guess any thing is possible but I think it is very unlikely. there is a reason that book is sold in the fiction section at book stores.
