Less resistance to air flow means more horsepower. Combined with several other upgrades you can really notice the difference. Just changing the intake probably wont change the way your car drives that much.

These are the advantages of purchasing an after market air intake filter and cool tube. First purchase the K-N air filter or the blue Accel air filter; these filters have cotton fibres, the holes in the fibre are much smaller so they can catch small debris and flow just as much air, then stock filters do. The best thing about these is that you can wash and re-use them for a million miles, and the instructions are on the box for how to care for them, it's very simple. On some vehicles these filters have picked up as much as 5 hp and when improving hp your fuel economy will be much better. With a cool tube which will help to increase the power and fuel economy of your vehicle. Because of less bends, less noise cancelling systems in your air ducts to your throttle body. The air moves faster with the after market cool tubes. You'll be very happy with these products. As an added bonus, you can hear the engine breathe deeper and louder. Do you remember the olden days when your dad may have turned the air cleaner lid upside down on his car, he went out on the road and he put it to the floor, you could hear it breathe better and louder, which put a smile on his face. Made that tank go faster...Also changing the vehicle's intake manifold, for this vehicle I would use the Edlebrocks duel plain open air intake. This will help in the bottom end torque upper mid-range hp. Using the air filter system as described above, is like icing on the cake. More power, more torque, better fuel economy and my friend headers are next. Go with the best Hookers 2 3/4" dually Pipe with the best Mufflers out there (Magaflow Masters). Put the tail pipes over the axle @ 2 3/4" The women will be turning their heads Now..

help in what what way but it should help both ways those ways are this... anytime you drop your intake temp 11 degrees you end up with up to 1 percent increase in hp based on colder air is denser in turn expands more than hotter air when ignited... as far a fuel economy it should gain as well because a less restrictive air delivery it will pay for its self in a couple of months in gas savings worth it

More HP. This probably won't make a huge difference in a Malibu. Usually done in sports cars that have other mods. Keeps the engine cooler.
