Someone help me remember what an old fantasy book i read when i was a kid was called...?

I don't remember much about the book except these details

the main character was a kid who could use magic (and i think was taught how in the second book of the series when he was possessed by his dead father)

there was a sorcerer who switched from good to evil every time he died.

there was a stallion that could talk

there was a sword that became more powerful with every kill... eventually, the kid uses the sword to kill the sorcerer (in his evil state) and the stallion.

the kid's uncle is an evil sorcerer. he makes a powerful sword as well.
