WiFi is a type of wireless transmission that converts electrical data into high frequency sound. The other end "hears" this data and converts it back to electrical data. if the sender is sending the data at a different frequency to the frequency the receiver is listening for, the 2 will not be able to talk. This is something completely different to IP addresses, and are designed not to be changed, however in rare cases the transmitter and receiver are incorrectly paired, meaning there is atleast 1 other person out there having the same problem (you've got his transmitter or receiver and he's got yours). Contact the manufaturer or retailer and have the product tested under controlled conditions then exchanged or refunded if it doesn't work.

go and buy the WiFi USB adapter it is much easier you can get it on Nintendo.com or at any game store. You just plug it into your computer (usb port) and follow the install instructions very easy. it is about $30.00
that is the route I had to take and it was the very simple and easy for online / connect to other user play.:)
Also you have to go to the WiFi website because there is a code you have to put into the DS and it tells you were to find it for the game that you are trying to connect with.
