Does anyone know of any place where I could get acting classes in New York City (or in the Westchester/Putnam area)? I would probably commute, and I'm looking for something on Saturdays.

I don't have any money, and my parents don't have much more, so I need to go for something relatively affordable. However, I really want to up my ante a notch for audition purposes for college and life and all that.

I think I have potential, but I need coaching. In any case, I don't know where to even begin, and I'm afraid of how much one-on-one classes will cost, and I'm not interested in group classes (my experience with those has been horrible).

Please and thank you ^^

As for group classes, if you study theater in college, you will be in a group class. MOST classes in NYC are group. I agree with the other poster, about HB (not expensive.) I dont know if they have one-on-one.

HB Studio is located at 120 Bank Street (one block north of W. 11th Street). 212-675-2370

This is a good place to start. Call and ask about one-on-one coaching, ask them to mail a class brochure to you.

The school is "out of the way, on the " West side, by the river - be cautious. It's best if a parent drives and waits for you.

Private coaching is expensive. Call this woman: She is nice, a former actor. She is one of the many acting teachers I studied with in NYC. She has group classes, and, I think one-on-one, ask her.

Tell her what you need. I don't know how much she charges for private coaching.

If money is a major concern, you should consider group classes, it's less expensive. http://catherinegaffigan.com/

Here are listings as posted in Backstage, the newspaper for Actors. NYC audition notices (Union and non-union) are listed in this newspaper. It's available for purchase every Thrusday, I think it costs $3.00 - next time you are in the city - buy a copy.

This listing is for acting classes. I don't know anything about the teachers/coaches.

BE CAREFUL. Your parents should know where you are going, as well as, the name/numbers, of the people you wil meet.
