could be the update or virus thing, but I think it may just be the ghost in the machine going on coffee-break.

There are many possible problems. I see others have listed many. In my opinion, it is probably a virus so I'll list some anti-virus/spyware/adware programs for you to use. They are all free. Use Yahoo! to search for them. 1. Avast anti-virus 2. AVG Antivirus 3. Lavasoft Adaware 4. Spybot/spyblaster 5. www.trendmicro.com housecall 6. Hijackthis 7. Who's Watching Me? 8. Security Task Manager Those are the good ones I use and can think of off the top of my head when doing computer repairs for others.

How did you all jump to the conclusion that she is running Windows?

There could be many reasons. First what kind of computer or operating system do you have? and when does the computer just shut off? Is it when you are working in a particular application? Do you have anti-virus software and if so how old is it? Do you update it?

Not sure but sounds like a server problem called RSA. Is it showing any window before shutting down ?
Also check FAN of your CPU. If Fan is not working it will keep creating heat and than powersupply will drop the connection.
Virus is also possible. If you are using WINDOWS please update it from microsoft site. Also update your virus protection utility and scan all drives.

And yes, take your back up asap !!

Well aside the the previous answers I'd say that there's a possibility that your computer may over heat. Other than that as said before, there may be memory issues.

could also be a sign that your motherboard has problems...can you open up the side of the case and see if you have any burst or swollen capacitors on the board? (if youre not sure what to look for, the capacitors are the small things that look like batteries sticking up out of the board and they should be completely flat on the top even somewhat inverted)
If you do have burst/swollen capacitors you will need to replace the mb...take it to your local pc shop

What version of Windows are you running? It might be running updates in the background and then restarting to finish installing them.

spyware or something like it. Download AVG, Adaware, CCleaner, and Spybot. Run them, follow their instruction about removing stuff. the best thing about them all is they are free. AVG can get the bugs that are infecting your system. Use a search engine to find them.

A virus or updates. I agree with the other answers. Check them all.
