When the Wings were knowcked out he said he would make a decision in a week or two on wheather or not he will come back for another season or if he will retire. Last i heard he wanted another cup but that was the end of the 2004/2005 season before the lock out.

I'm a Devils fan, but Stevie is my favorite hockey player of all time. It will be sad to see him go. But, they all have to some time. He's one of the last true greats that was loyal to his team through thick and thin. So was Barry Sanders for the Lions. I guess there is something about playing in Detroit that keeps people around. Stevie, if you go we'll miss you. But you have done your job. If you feel the need, we'll understand. Cheers!

Steve Yzerman is in the same boat with Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Ron Francis. He should go out while he is still able to walk out. He has his Stanley Cup rings and should retire.

If Yzerman comes back chances are he could get injured and need to retire. He should just hang them up and move on perhaps in some type of coaching role or player development like Pat LaFontaine is doing in Long Island with the Islanders.

Yzerman has done what few people can say at the end of their career and that was to play their entire career and win a Stanley Cup with one team. The fans in Detroit will be sad to see him go, but the retiremnet celebration will be a blast.

GM Ken Holland said he talked with Yzerman during the past week regarding Yzerman's future -- retirement or return -- and the two are expected to meet later this week. "He hasn't made a decision about whether he's going to play," Holland said. "We agreed to talk again here soon and see where it goes." It could be that Yzerman will return for another season in the NHL

I heard he was.... because he is not worth 1-2 million a season and the teams now are looking for younger stars rather than the old veteran teams.... its all about the best bang for the teams buck so the younger better talent the better!
