Pretty much anything that's kind of small. Rip off the top of a matchbook and fold it. Coins are good. They make kind of a metallic sound.

Cut out a pick from a piece of plastic. Like a coffee can cover. A large bread tab works too. Cut that the same way.

Use a book of bar matches. Works for me in a pinch. I also have handy some modified banjo picks. And if i really want to jam, I slide a small medicine bottle on my pinky finger and let it ride up and down the neck.
Yeah.....try the soft book of bar matches.

Back when I was in high school and Queen was huge (yes, I know that makes me practically ancient) I read that their guitarist used a coin for a pick to get his unique sound.

If you have any old plastic cards similar to credit cards, you could cut one of the corners off and shape it in just about any way you want to. Bam, custom pick.

I had that problem and found I was able to use a paper clip. And since that time I've experimented with keys, safety pins and some coins work if modified just a little.
Rock on ! =)

Cut out a piece from a plastic cup or plate. It should be thin enough, but won't snap.
