vegeta_ss_j...There's no such thing as a "blocking foul" There is "impeeding the progress of an opponent" but that would result in an indirect free kick, not a direct.

Rob...if you referee at a national level, then your explinations are lacking in substance or propper information. If you are going to call the Australian player for "impeeding" (hasn't been called "obstruction" for a while), it would result in an indirect kick. Also, if the call was "denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity" (has never been referred to as "taking away" a "scoring chance") then why were there no cards issued? Denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity is an automatic red (no choice whatsoever). There wasn't even a yellow card pulled on that play.

The call was either for tripping, or you could possibly argue the point that the referee had waited to call the first contact to see if advantage would develop, then went back to call the first foul when the advantage was gone, but that is pushing it. There had been much harder contact that had gone unchecked and when there's a foul in the penalty area, the most adventagious thing to do (unless the ball is literally on the way into the goal) is to give the penalty kick.

First of all, if any of you know anything about soccer...The penalty kick had to be given since a scoring chance was taken away. The Australian defender was obstructing the Italian player. Secondly, the Italian player fought off the first tackle in which contact was made, the second tackle had to be called a foul. Look, I'm not a fan of the italians either but the penalty kick was warranted. I know because I referee at the national level.

Don't hate the player, hate the game! The ref called what he wanted. Italy made the penalty. Australia & Italy are both well matched teams, but Italy caught a break, so give them a break!

do that lady on top...do u think the referee had all the time to go and think whether it's impeeding or blocking or whatever??? he called it becoz i think he thought that he had been harshed to send one of the italy player out on a straight red card earlier in the game...so it's kinda payback...
