Partly depends on your age and also on finances. Inexpensive things include reading a lot of excellent novels. You can go to the library and check out books and magazines and read all sorts of things.

Do you have a goal? Are you a student? You could use the internet and do research on that goal, or you could study up on a subject that interests you a lot.

You can waste away time playing computer games.

You can hang out with friends.

You can visit new areas. Take a bus trip or a train trip to the farthest, but most beautiful places in your state.

You could get very, very adventurous and go on a vacation, booking a cabin in the mountains for a week, hiking and sitting on the edge of a lake or stream somewhere....

Do you live near the ocean? Hang out on the beach all summer. Learn to surf. Learn to scuba dive. Learn to sail a boat.

If you are 18, you could get a job in a national park for the summer. They hire all sorts of people at resort hotels and to work in stores and restaurants in resort areas.

The best things to do are things that you enjoy, that don't cost much and that will give you nice memories. A variety of things is best.

Then again, if you are rich, doing expensive things might be fun.

keep busy, volunteer, go to the library, make things (crafts) clean out your living space and get rid of old junk, spend time alone, write in a journal, draw, dream, organize your pictures - make a scrap book....tons of stuff..just keep busy. I have the hardest time staying busy, I have a tendency to get really lazy over the summer, which seems to lead to a fuzzy brain syndrome that takes me a while to shake off once school starts. I make it a point to do SOMETHING every day. And I do take at least one day a week to do nothing but sleep....and I don't feel guilty for that.
