Sentence A is correct. Quotation marks go around the part being quoted, and quotation marks are outside punctuation such as commas, periods, etc. Sentence B should have quotes after "shelves," a comma after "said," and a lower case "or." Sentence C should have the quotation mark after the period, not before. Sentence D should have the quotation mark after the comma.

A is correct.
B is incorrect because "she said" should not be included in the quotation.
C in correct because it is the title of a smaller part of a whole book, a chapter.
D is correct because short stories use quotation marks.

The use of the other punctuation inside or outside the quotation marks varies depending on what country you are in, but both A and D use commas correctly in relation to the q marks, for what it's worth.

I would say it's A. The punctuation is correct within the quotation marks. I got an A in both of my college English courses so I do believe I am right.
Also check this website for writing style and rules, it's really good: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/557/01/

Two pointers I know about quotation marks:
(1) Direct quotes are always encased in open and end quotes (even if the direct quote is interupted).
(2) Quotation marks always go outside of the punctuation mark.
Hope this helps you with the answer. :O)

A uses Quotations correctly because it has a period inside the quotes unlike letter C.
B is wrong because it doesn't continue the quotes
D is wrong because you don't have a comma after quotes!
Anyway A is right
Hope i helped you get an A

A is correct.
In B, "she said" should not be included in the quotation marks.
In both C and D, the quotation mark occurs before the punctuation--it should be the other way.

A, B & D are correct. A because the words spoken are in quotes. C & D because the title is in quotes. B is wrong because "she said" is inside quotes when the words were not spoken.

My educated guess is A.
Books and stories should be italicized and B is missing quotes before and after "she said".
So, by the power of elimination.... A!!
