only with a special cabel. I would suggest getting a jump drive (usb memory stick) and transfering the files that way. If the HDD has crashed then you have a very expensive option.

Because the connector on the back of a laptop drive is different then the connector of a desktop drive, you can not simply plug it in. You would have to get either a mini-IDE adaptor that hooks to the back of the laptop drives and changes it to a Desktop type connector (IDE). Or you can purchase an enclosure that the laptop drive fits in and then connects to the desktop by a USB cable.

Would probably be cheaper to network the two computers or to use a crossover cable and transfer the data that way. Or to purchase a USB memory stick and use it to transfer data. When you are done, you still have the stick and can continue to use it for all kinds of things, where you may never use the enclosure or mini-IDE adaptor again.

Its actually pretty simple. You just buy a 2.5" drive enclosure from eBay, or purchase a 2.5" to 3.5" drive adapter. It will convert your laptop drives connectors to your desktops.

If you go the enclosure route, then you install the drive in the enclosure, and then connect that to your computer via usb or firewire (depending on the enclosure).

Ok I see that you need to recover data. Try booting into windows from your desktop and see what data you can recover. If you have everything connected properly, you should just see the drive in 'My Computer.' If not, then you will probably need some data recovery software.

What you should do is setup a network with your laptop to your computer and share the files so you can transfer them over easily. It is the best way to go and its not at all hard to setup. If you need more info shoot me an email shortcircuitcomputer@yahoo.com I will send you some info. Hope this helps!
