Weight lifting helps as long as it done in a manner that enhances acceleration, speed, etc... Weight lifting only to get stronger will not make you a better athlete overall. There are also many drills designed to specifically improve acceleration and starting speed/strength. Check the link below for more information and explanations as to things that can be done...it is also designed specifically for basketball players.

If you run with a parachute, etc. to build up your explosiveness, your acceleration will improve. Try and work your upper leg muscles, especially your glutes. They help you power up and down the court.

I would recommend stair running and hill running. It strengthens your legs a lot and will help with endurance and speed.

Form running type stuff helps. practice driving up ur knee.

its all about explosion
learn to use blocks correctly
lift weights(squat)
Run a whole bunch of 20's

make sure you stretch real good and umm..oh ya get more muscle on your thighs. and make sure you practice sprinting alot . this should help
