I just graduated from college and I'm moving back home. It's about an hour and a half away and I'm looking for an inexpensive way to move all my stuff. Moving trucks are like $129.00 plus gas and mileage. I'm a new grad and broke as a joke, anyone have any tips for making the move less expensive?

First topic: Boxes Get them for free at a local department store or grocery store, they get rid of tons everyday.

Second topic: Moving everything Throw a moving party. Have your friends each bring a food item and some old newspapers.

Group stuff together. Towels, clothes, newspapers and breakables can all go together. Use the towels, clothes and newspapers to wrap around breakable items for cushioning, like glass cups, your TV, etc. Dont forget that pillows and stuffed animals can be used as cushioning too. Also wrap towels and stuff around objects to keep things from getting scratched due to vibrating during the trip. Use towels for the more important things because they give extra cushioning. Group stuff together in categories: bathroom stuff, kitchen stuff, glassware, etc. and mark the boxes for opening purposes later. For CD racks, just wrap seran wrap around the rack to hold all of the CD cases in. For light boxes, use a couple of books to weight the boxes down if they are going in the back of a truck that doesn't have a camper top. This will help prevent your stuff from flying out. Dismantle any furniture that you can take apart to save on room and load the big stuff first and the little stuff last. The little stuff can fit in all the knooks and crannies. Objects can even be stuffed into you microwave or dorm fridge if you have one. Definitely make sure to cushion any appliances you have, microwave, computer, stereo, dorm refigerator, etc. The vibration and jaring can damage them.

A cart helps a ton in moving. I recommend using one if you have one to use.

I've moved many times and have never used a moving truck. Back and forth to college, from Indiana to Houston and back for a college co-op, then to Ohio after graduation, then to Indiana again after the first college job didn't work out. I'm also a packaging engineer. So good luck in the move home!

First off. Go through your items and sort them out, often used, good stuff, and things that are really dear to your heart. Have a yard sale to get rid of the stuff you don't need. What don't sell give to the a charitable site.
Second, Box up the stuff that you're are going to take with you and mark the boxes.
Third, decide If you need a truck and what size, Get moving blanket and boxes. When moving your furiture, till lean the top part on both. And like Larry the cable guy says " get her
Fourth. Get some friends to help load and unload the truck.

How many things do you have to move? What size moving truck are you looking at? If there's not too much stuff, and you know people who have available pickup trucks or vans or larger vehicles who can help, perhaps you can convince them to help out by offering to pay for their gas and buy them a nice meal to help you load your stuff up and move it.

If that's not an option, perhaps you can do like someone else said and sell some stuff to help finance it. Or maybe you could borrow the money to help pay for it from a family member or friend?

If you need boxes, check with your local grocery stores, etc. and see if they have boxes that they would otherwise throw out that they can let you have in reasonable condition.

Good luck!

Sorry, but unless you know someone with pickup trucks to help you, you're going to have to rent the moving truck. Just make sure you get the size closest to what you need. I just moved cross country and they ended up giving me a truck 2/3's bigger than what I needed. Ended up being a gas hog too even though it was supposedly a new truck. Thank God I moved before gas prices went up. Good Luck!

Do not purchase boxes! Go to your local hospital (purcasing department) and ask for left over boxes. Also, call in all favors for borrowing a truck. Look into renting a pickup truck from a car rental agency. Really look at the stuff you are moving...is it worth the money to move it? If not, yard sale it and save the money to buy good stuff.

Sell or donate some of your stuff. Pack the rest in your car to the rafters, & on top. Rent or borrow a trailer to pull. Or ask some buddies to help out & ask folks at home to feed them in exchange for their help. Or ask folks at home to come get you & bring a van or a couple suv's.

Renee would you like to have a guy for the summer that you could call and get your feet done when you want. Like just step and walk on his stomach like a doormat and sit there and get your feet cleaned and massaged anytime. Let me know if you would be interested. I really do this for females!
