I have a new cell phone, first time.........so how do I text message and IM someone?

The instructions are difficult for some reason for me to grasp on texting.and I can't find how to IM someone.Please help

Each phone is different. It sounds like you should find a buddy with the same phone, and have them show u. You are probabley a visual learner.
