the best way is to observe and jump into a conversaton by relating to what they are saying like hey we are on yahoo answers how many questions have you answered so far and what level are you on? See. Relate to what you are doing and they are doing. the best is when they are talking and you can listen for a good five min to gleen information about the person you want to talk to before you speak. "Hey I see you like yahoo answers too what do you think of the rating system?"

Someone you work with? Someone you see at church? the bar? How well do you know this person? Start a conversation by asking about them...or a compliment, like "nice shirt, I love that color." or ask them what they do (obviously not if they work with you) but most people like to talk about themselves, so asking a question (as long as it's not too awkward or personal) should be a good way to start.

Ewwwww. I'm not into the dating scene so I shouldn't be answering. I heard that you're supposed to ask people what their passion is (interests are). That somehow you're supposed to get them to talk about themselves and you are to act really interested in what they are saying and don't interrupt. Smile a lot. So, does this give you any ideas.

No, dont use any cheesey pick up lines. Find out something their interstead in, and say hey have u tryed this, and go fr. there. It'll show that u have the same interest.

Try asking a question that doesn't take too much knowledge, but more opinion. Men love having a girl ask them their view, but nothing political.
Here's some of mine-

"GAwD, don't you just hate it when people steal your parking spot? Man that burns me!" and he'll usually go into, "I'm so big and burly and manly they don't dare!" and you can say "Oh, your my hero, can you go kick this jack hole's @$$ for me, or slash his tires"

Or "Don't you hate it when your thong lace rubs too hard on your a$$hole?" and he'll say something like "Oh yeah, I prefer microfiber thongs myself" and you'd say "Wow, you wear a thong?"

Start off with something you like and after you talked about it for a little while ask that person what he/she likes.

Take your dog (or borrow a friend's) for a walk. People walking dogs always spark converation!
