Race has to do with one's ancestry, but nationality has to do with citizenship. For example, someone can be Chinese by ancestry (their parents, grandparents, etc. were Chinese), but that person is an American by nationality (because they are an American citizen).

An ethnic group is usually a collective term referring to people who share similar race and/or nationality.
