How do you get yourself to be more outgoing?

This took me years to learn, and it can be hard to do. I was sooooooooooo shy that if anyone looked at me, I would hide. I am now able to talk to people and able to make and keep friends a lot easier.

I had to learn to speak up in group situations. I had read books on how to get better self-esteem, which really helps--and had to do what the books said to do or they wouldn't have done me any good.My favorite book is: Stand Up, Speak Out, Talk Back (I think that's the name of it). It tells you how to work on your self-esteem, boundaries, etc.

Another thing I did was put myself in situations that made it so I had to speak up (started small such as in a restaurant when my food was cold or not the way I ordered it, I had the waitress take it back). Doing this really helped me to see that speaking up really helps and is a good thing--and that its my right to do so when something isn't how it should be.

Try new things that you haven't tried before; talk to people you don't know (start by saying Hi and go from there). Listen to what others are saying around you (especially in restaurants, especially with those who are behind or in front of you at restaurants or in a line somewhere) and when they say something that you know something about, or want to learn more about, speak up and say 'excuse me. I couldn't help overhearing what you were saying about ... and talk about it with them, if they are willing..

All of these things have helped me to become a more outgoing person and not so scared to talk with people, etc. I still have a hard time at times (that shyness does come back at times), but most of the time I am outgoing. All of this does take time and work, but it can be done. Believe me. I have been there, done that.

Not sure, I'm wondering that myself. Alot of ppl tell me to get out there and try new things. When u find out let me know.
