It is very natural to pick favorites, we do it all our lives.
It is OK, just remember the older one needs a little more care and attention than the feisty one.
You don't need/have to like someone/something to care for their well being and basic needs.
The older horse probable doesn't feel very well, especially if she has breathing problems. She is probable just as content for you to leave her alone, just keep her supplied with feed, water and a clean stall. She deserves her rest.
The other horse is full of energy and ready to go, that always makes a horse lover want to be around them. It is always a joy to throw a saddle on a spirited horse for a good run. The horse will probable enjoy it as much if not more than you do.
Have fun and enjoy the younger, feisty horse.

I know some horses like me better than others do. I walk out and check our mares as often as I can. Some of them walk right up to me and want me to pay attention while others couldn't care less. As long as you are caring for both of them, it's fine to have favorites. Out of the 40 some head out at the ranch, two are my very favorites.

I think it's normal to prefer one over the other. We are down to two horses now, and I love mine, and just accept the other one!
