Yes, it is a true (non-fiction) book.
"Tuesdays With Morrie" is the heartwarming story of Albom's relationship with his college mentor, Morrie Schwartz, with whom Albom has lost touch for 16 years. Upon seeing him on the "Nightline" program - talking to Ted Koppel about what it was like to die from Lou Gehrig's disease - Albom was both horrified and ashamed. He called his old teacher, flew to Boston for a reunion, and began a series of weekly visits, rekindling their loving teacher-student relationship while tackling a larger subject in their final "class": the meaning of life.

Yes it's true. I had to read the book for sophmore English. Mitch was Morrie's student and wrote the book to help pay for Morrie's medicine. He (Mitch) also wrote The Five People You Meet In Heaven that is based off of his grandfather's life, like a tribute to him. It's a great book!

I think it's supposed to be a true story. My copy had a picture of Morrie in the book. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some creative liscense taken with the story though.

Yes, it's a true story. Morrie Schwartz was a professor at Brandeis when I was a student there...although I didn't have him for a teacher, my roommate did!

Yes, I've read it. It's a really great book, but I'm almost positive it's a fictional story. It may however be based on a true story.

I saw the play, it was so sad. The story is real and whatever disease Morrie died from is a charity that works in honor of him.
