I've a 1994 SRS and recently the battery keeps getting drained every time the car is turned off. The battery is only a year old, and the alternator was tested and it's fine...we suspect it's a short. Is there something that commonly shorts out on this make and model car? I'd just like to know where to start checking...

The interior lights were the cause once before, but since having removed that fuse there haven't been any problems for months.

Remove the positive cable from the battery, connect one end of a test light to the cable and the other end to the battery. Remove fuses one at a time until the light goes out. That will tell you which circuit is causing the draw if it has one then you can unplug components in that circuit to narrow it down to the exact cause of the draw. You will need a wiring diagram for the car.

The factory website that most consumers use won't tell anything about any bulletins out for the product....

You need to bring it somewheres and have a draw test performed. This is a test that measures the amount of power the car is using after a time... after 1 hour, the draw should be so small that leaving the car for a month should be no problems.... But you probably have a light staying on somewheres with the trunk, under the hood and the glove box being common places that burn down a battery without you the customer noticing.

But unless you want to get a amp meter, feel comfortable around batteries and doing electrical work, it's professional help time.

Maybe it is just a weak battery. Was it a cheap replacement battery? Maercury Sables and Ford Tauruses are the same. You may want to see if there is a known issue regarding this, consumer reports is a good site to check.
