If the doctor thinks that something is wrong the will tell you and run tests. I know its hard not to worry, I recently had my first child, but try to keep things low-stress and healthy. Thats the best thing you can do, and listen to your doc

As long as you are seeing the doctor regularly and following what the doctor tells you things should be fine. Blood work and ultrasounds can tell you if there is anything really seriousely wrong, escecially if it has to do with genetic illnesses like downs syndrome, MS and things like that. Old wise tales say if you baby gets the hiccups during pregnancy then its a sign of a healthy baby. Somethings cannot be detected during pregnancy and can show up after the baby is born. Being confussed is normal for a first time mom. I remember how scared I was when my oldest of 6 was born. He is 24 now. It is normal to be worried.

If you are gaining weight, feel movement (this is hard to answer not knowing how far along you are) there are certain "tell tale" signs that everything is going well but yes, your ultrasound will do a great job at letting you and your caregiver know the development of the baby, if it's on track for age, how healthy the heart is, if all the internal organs are forming on schedule AND working, it's a great tool to make sure everything is good with baby.

The normal ultrasounds that the doc. gives you in the hospital can tell you if the baby is a normal size and if theres any facial problems. But the odds are that your baby will be just fine. Threw your pregnancy your doc. will give you blood test that will tell you if the baby has down syndrome or spina bifida. Those tests are not 100%. When I was pregnant with my second child I got that blood test done and it came back that my baby had spina bifida. I was crazy, out of my mind and I had to wait 2wks. to see if the test was right, that was the longest 2 wks. of my life. But it came back and it was just a bad test (false positive). Shes now 3yrs. old and shes as healthy as she can be.Dont worry just relax and enjoy being pg. Everything will be fine (GOD will take care of everything)!!!!!

You can't, you just take the best possible care of yourself, stay away from alcohol, tobacco, prescription drugs, street drugs and dangerous situations. Rest when you are tired and sleep as much as you need to. Eat the right foods and take a prenatal vitamin daily.
Tell your health care provider if you have engaged in any of the above activities before pregnancy and since.
Love yourself and your baby above all others and do what is right for the two of you. At the moment of conception you became responsible for another life. There are no guarantees, you can do everything right and the baby can still develop problems now or later, just resolve to care for him/her to the very best of your ability.
You have already done the most important thing by asking this question. Good luck!!

The ultrasound will show major problems like spinal bifida. Other tests (like the triple screen test) will detect genetic problems like Downs Syndrome, BUT it has a very high false positive rate and often leads to more intrusive testing.

I don't know if I should tell you this but nobody really knows if a baby is 100% healthy. Some sickness will not show sign till they reach puberty.
