I have had 2 kids but they were born full term. After 36 weeks a baby is considered full term. When I was 35 weeks my doctor estimated that my baby so far was about 5 pounds. Your baby would be fine if born now.

I had my first child when I was two days shy of being 31 weeks. He was 4.5 pounds and 17 1/2 inches long. He was lucky and only had to stay in the hospital for 3 weeks. He was due August 5th and came out June 1st. He tried to come out 3 times and the 3rd time he succeeded. I had to bring him home on an apnea monitor. He is now 7 years old and healthy as can be.

35 week babies have the same statisitcal survival rate as full term babies
~they weigh a few hundred gm less than full term babies about 2-2.5 kg
~they need more protection from cold
~have some struggles with feeding and need tube feeding sometimes
~they can need some oxygen support but rarely need intubation
~most will go to the ward with their moms but will spend a week or so in the hospital being monitored before going home

DONT WORRY

I had my baby at 33 weeks. He was 5 lbs 11 ozs and was able to breathe and feed on his own immediately. If you happen to go now, there might be a few issues (we were warned that because he was a boy, he might have troubles with breathing/eating eventually, but he never had any related to prematurity), but the prognosis will most likely still be good. Try to relax and not worry, as I'm sure your baby will be fine. He/she will be born when they are ready.

My hubby was born at 35 weeks. He was 5 pounds or so, and he had respiratory distress syndrome (his lungs weren't developed enough). But even 30 years ago, he came out of it just fine.
