Honey, it is sad to hear that you have to part with your horse. Being a cowboy without a horse in Las Vegas, I feel for you. I have had horses my whole life and they have been very influential in my thought process of life. I could ride for hours and get all my problems or ideas set, just by riding the horses. They seem to have a calming effect on me and putd my mind to ease. Why would you have to get rid of your horse? If you really do need to get rid of him, make sure he will be in good hands. Keep in mind, would this be the place you would want to be if you were him, or not? How long have you had him? Where do you live? How old is he? What breed? If for some reason you need to get rid of him fast, try the option of your large animal vet office, feed store, local animal shelters, local ranches, etc to give him to or ask if they know f or can help you place him in good home.

I think if you want to keep the horse local you should put a notice up on the board at your local feed store. Most people have good hearts & will help you find a nice home for your friend. I have placed many horses into good homes in the past(had a horse rescue in Mass.) there is hope, don't let your dad send him to the meat man. Someone will help you even if he is only good as a companion horse. Feel free to contact me thru this site & I will see if I can help you better.

No, don't place an ad in the paper for a free horse. Please read "Free to a Good Home" at http://www.petrescue.com/library/free-pet.htm
The article refers mainly to dogs and cats but it is the same for all animals!
The best option would be to contact your local SPCA or Humane Society. Both of the organizations take in horses and adopt them out to forever homes.
You can also get on petfinder.com and look up horse rescues and sanctuaries in your area.
If you need any help on finding or contacting these people please email me at shortystrayrescue@yahoo.com
We just adopted a horse from Lonestar Equine Rescue now known as Habitat for Horses. They are located throughout the south.

There are places that you can find online, I just can't remember right now, horse shelters, adoptions, if you type these in, you'll be sure to find one. They take horses and adopt them out to people who have a lot of land to let them just eat and sleep. Try it, I know you'll find one in your area!
