Yes I agree that the Italian made the most of his fall (Dive) but the Australian defender (Lucas Neill) should have stayed on his feet, by going to ground he gave the Italian the oppertunity to fall over him and the Referee was conned
But in FOOTBALL (Not Soccer Please) any attacker will take advantage of a defenders mistake.
The Mafia link is just not even worth answering.... NO CHANCE

BTW Italy were hard done by too by the referee who wrongly sent off Matterazi it should only have been a Yellow Card so I don't think he favoured either team

The Ref was a tawt.

If it was a 100% no doubt foul, then fine, award a penalty.

But it was a cynical ploy by an Italian player to get a penalty.

Noway should he have got it.

Also, that close to the game going into extra time, anyone with any sense of sportsmanship would not have awarded the penalty.

This World Cup has seen more than it's fair share of siht ref's, and this game proved no exception.

I think it was both - the Italian dived, and the Ref made a very wrong and disappointing decision. It was most unfair on the Socceroos - they made it into the Round of 16 for the very first time only to lose because of sheer bad luck. Italy cheated - they will pay.

I don't think there's a link with the mafia. But you should know simulating is italian soccer team's speciality. They just used their usual strategy, and once again, it worked. The referee believed there was a penalty worth move, and Italia won. It's just football, Italian football...

First I want to say **** you. Then the most of the time the refree was going for the Aussies. The red card was something that wasn't neccesary. Plus with 10 man down Italy still managed to beat them.

FIFA want the big names in the last 8. Italy were always going to win especially after they whinged about being unfairly treated in 2002.

but but but but, weren't Italians flying like toothpicks all over because Australians were pushing 'em and showelling them from the get-go? I saw some pretty bad arm-work there.
