For the most part, if you fish for bass, you are already an amateur bass angler. To get involved into tournaments and such, most communities have BASS clubs or fishing clubs of some sort. They will hold local tournaments to qualify for regional, state, etc. This is the path you need to take in the quest for the big show (B.A.S.S. Master). Local clubs also offer much insight to local and regional lakes and reservoirs that you may otherwise miss out on. Follow this link to get you started....

HE IS AFFILIATED WITH SMITH MOUNTAIN LODGE IN THE BRISTOL VIRGINIA AREA..MAYBE IF YOU CAN FIND A NUMBER FOR THE LODGE AND ASK ABOUT HIM THEY CAN TELL YOU HOW TO GET IN CONTACT WITH HIM.
