Lindsay- They didn't bash NY per se. They repsonded to Neil's criticism of the "old south".
Anyway, I like Skynyrd a lot. I love "On The Hunt", "Simple Man", & "Workin For MCA". (sorry- Freebird never Really did it for me. Decent song, but radio killed it & they have better tunes)
The songs I listed do more for me musically. They rock hard w/ southern finesse.
Anyone else annoyed they use 'Sweet Home..." for KFC??

Sweet Home Alabama, I know that's like everyones answer if you walk up on the street and said, What's your favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd Song, but it really is. I love the words.
"Well I heard mister Young sing about her
Well, I heard ole Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern man don't need him around anyhow
Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet Home Alabama
Lord, I'm coming home to you"
I also love Simple Kind of Man. And this is why
"Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied."
It's so simple but true!

Actually, in Sweet Home Alabama, they were only joking with Neil Young. In fact, they wore Neil Young t-shirts in many of their concerts. Look it up. Any way, my favorite Skynyrd song is Simple Man. It's a gorgeous song.....and though, I'm not a man, it reminds me of the kind of person I would like to be.

Tuesday's Gone...no contest!
And to the person who said they didn't like Lynyrd Skynyrd because they bashed Neil Young...let me tell you, that is a full circle. Neil Young took the first offense bashing LS. But I still looooove both.

I love FREEBIRD!!! I just like listening to it the way they sound when they sing it and kinda the meaning behind it. It also brings back a lot of memories from years gone by.

'Free Bird' pretty much states their view on life... free as a bird and they will never change. I do agree, though, that "That Smell" says a lot about the lifestyle of drugs and alcohol and what it can lead to.
