You can start buying some things for baby, like under shirts one piece pajamas, a couple of receiving blankets. Some diapers, a couple of cute outfits, get them big as babies grow so fast. Don't buy too much as your friends may throw you a baby shower. Good Luck with the new baby.

I also recommend buying clothes for older ages - 6-12 months rather than just newborn stuff. Once you have your baby it is possible that you will not want to worry about clothes shopping for a really long time! Plus, time flies by so quickly, and before you know it you'll need larger sizes.
Don't go overboard with 0-3 mo. sizes because often the baby doesn't use them for the full 3 months.

Even if you have been told that you are having a boy there is almost never 100% accuracy in sonograms even with the advanced technology. A lot of places I have heard are not telling people the sex of their baby because there has been cases of people trying to file a lawsuit against the dr or hospital when they have been told for months that they are having a baby girl then during delivery out pops a baby boy, or the other way around. I would wait to start buying things until after your baby is born just to make sure, plus if you are having a baby shower you will get things then too. I had hand-me-downs I put my son in green to bring him home from the hospital and he wore girl hand-me-downs at home for the first month. I had a few outfits of blue that he wore when we went out, but I don't suggest going crazy on clothes just yet. The other reason being that babies grow soo fast. I have outfits that I bought right after my son was born that he never got a chance to wear. If you want to buy anything I would do things like bottles and formula if you are going to bottle feed, but check the dates on the formula and you can get diapers, just don't buy all newborn diapers even if your baby is only going to be born 5-6 Lbs, don't buy too many of them. You could buy the baby furnature. I bought mine right around that time, 1 pack of newborn diapers and rounded up my hand-me-downs washed everything and repacked most of it as we planned to move, which we did 2 days after I got out of the hospital.

Buy a few outfits now (weather appropriate outfits...if your baby is going to be born in December, for example, don't buy a bunch of shorts and tshirts outfits). I had everything all washed, dried, folded, hung up and ready to go with my first born. He was large (8 lb. 4 oz.) and barely fit into any of his newborn clothes. The problem with this point is that tags had been torn off and clothes washed, so I couldn't return them, and I was stuck with a bunch of clothes that didn't fit. Same thing with his younger brother...he was 8 lb. 11 oz. and didn't fit into most newborn clothes. I had learned my lesson at that point, though. :)
My suggestion is to buy several of those newborn "gowns". They're made by carters, and usually sold at Wal Mart, Babies R Us. Meijer, etc. as a two-pack for roughly $9.99. They're super, super soft knit cotton, they're very thin material, so they're OK for summer, even though they're long-sleeved, the cuffs fold down on them to fold over your baby's hands so he doesn't scratch his face, they're ankle length, and, best of all!, the bottom of them are elastic, so when you change his diaper (which you'll be doing constantly, it seems, all you have to do is pull it up around his waist...no unsnapping, unzipping, unbuttoning.
The ONLY problem I've found with these is that, when the baby is first born and is all scrunched up before his arms start to uncurl, these gowns are sort of hard to get their arms into because the baby just wants to keep them scrunched up, but the pros FAR outweigh the one con. :) Both of my boys lived in these little gowns until they were probably 6 months old.

This is one for a girl, but they are unisex clothing and come in blue, yellow, green, etc.

Hopefully someone is having a baby shower for you because that will help tremendously. But mostly you'll need some onesies and sleepers. Don't buy any expensive outfits as the first few months baby will sleep a lot and the first size 0-3 months will only fit for that long if your lucky.

If the color for indicating the sex of the baby is unimportant, start buying now. If you're on a tight budget, go to the used clothing stores and buy for pennies on the dollar. We did that with our son almost all of his youth. We bought some special things new, but by and large he was dressed from the used clothing stores and always at as much as 1/100 of the cost of new, and he never looked ragtag nor out of style. Kids grow out of their clothing much faster than they wear it out. There's always an abundance of used baby clothing, even in yard sales, and you won't have to spend a fortune to outfit him. Let baby showers provide you with the start on some new stuff. If your in laws and your own parents are involved in the baby's life, they'll provide some very nice stuff for it.
My final word? Start now. Early is better than late. Besides, you'll have a lot of fun.
Enjoy your baby boy!

I personally didnt wait till 8mths or after birth. I bought my baby's stuff bit by bit throughout my preg. First thing, u wudnt wanna wait till ur heavily preg to go shopping. ur feet will already be swollen n wudnt be able to walk far n for long. Second thing, u wudnt wanna wait for great sales to come along to get those things ready. U'll be shoving along wif other inconsiderate shoppers.U can start wif the basic whites n now since u already know ur baby's gender, go ahead n spoil ur baby with colours of blue. but please survey around for the best or reasonable prices before u jump to buy the baby's stuff.n best if u can get hand-me-down frm close frens or relative.Save whenever u can. The little one will soon outgrow his clothing in a few mths time.hope it helps!

the best time to buy clothes is when they are on special offer and going cheap
or you could go and get them second hand clothes (babies really DONT mind that)
also why not attend various baby and toddler groups which can be an invaluable source of what is availible and where to go etc for the little people?
congrats on the baby btw - i think that your cherub has your eyes!
