I DIDNT HAVE TO READ THAT TO AGREE WITH YOU. IT IS SAD TO SEE PEOPLE WHO DON'T UNDERSTAND FOOTBALL BASH IT.MAKE ME WANT TO SHOVE MY HAND DOWN THEIR THROATS. I HEARD RECENTLY THAT AUSTRALIA PLAYS BETTER "FOOTBALL"(handball as I like to call that crap some go crazy for) THAN AMERICA DOES. HECK,THE BEST NBA PLAYER NOW IS CHINESE!! IMAGINE THAT!!!!!
I LIVE IN US AND IF YOU DON'T LIVE HERE AND ARE A TRUE FOOTBALL FAN,YOU WON'T KNOW WHAT I HAD TO ENDURE EVERYDAY. THE MEDIA HYPED THE TEAM SO MUCH. SO MANY PEOPLE CAME TO THE TEAM'S DEFENSE SAYING THEY'RE RANKED FIFTH BEST IN THE WORLD WITHOUT CONSIDERING THEIR OPPONENTS OF WHICH MEXICO IS THE ONLY GOOD TEAM. IF YOU BEAT CANADA IN FOOTBALL,THAT IS NOT CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION BECAUSE CANADA DOESN'T CARE EITHER WAY. THE TEAM WAS TOUTED AS "MOST LIKELY TO MAKE IT TO THE FINALS AND EVEN WIN THE CUP. I ONLY WATCHED THEIR MATCH TO LIFT MY MOOD BECAUSE IT WAS FUNNY.
THE ONLY THING USA IS/USED TO BE GOOD AT IS TENNIS AND MAYBE THEY SHOULD STICK TO THAT.OH WAIT,THEY CAN'T BECAUSE THE FRENCH TOOK THE CUP RECENTLY. *snickers*. I guess pride really does go before a fall and for the sanity of us all who really get the sport, it is FOOTBALL AND NOT SOCCER. AMERICA IS THE ONLY COUNTRY I KNOW THAT CALLS FOOTBALL SOCCER. YOU HAVE TO GET THE NAME RIGHT BEFORE YOU CAN ACTUALLY WIN A GAME,HAI NA? i am dying from giggles right now

i don't really understand the point. the article says we suck at soccer, ok, we already knew that. we've never tried to deny that. what we keep trying to tell you europeans is that we don't CARE. please quit trying to get us to call soccer football, it'll never happen. football is played on a gridiron with helmets and shoulder pads by big, strong, tough athletes, not by a bunch of sissies in shorts who fall down holding their legs when an opponent brushes up against them. and as for the question of wether americans are good at ANYTHING, wait until the summer olympics in 2008 where we'll be at the top of the medal board as always.

What a fantastic, articulate piece of journalism!
And in answer to your question, I still don't think it will make much sense to the non-believers.
If they can't 'own' it, they don't want it. They don't have any FOOTBALL legends like Pele, Zico, Charlton et al. Oh sorry, I forgot about Mia Hamm.
It is not fair to the US team though - they tried their best - I feel sorry for them that the majority of Americans couldn't really care how well they did.
And it was 'football' way before you.

ok first of all i really do care that were out of the world cup. second that reporter is an a** and can kiss mine. third, arena is retarded and is blaming everyone else but himself for losing. he totally dissed mls by saying the reason we lost is that we dont have enough players playing in european football.
