I see your point completely and a variation of that logic is heard frequently after disasters of all kinds. But the other side of that though process is, well for instance our soldiers in Iraq. One can find a number of situations where a soldier miraculously escaped injury or death, but then how to we use the same logic to explain the other 2500 that didn't escape death. A car with two occupants crashes. One person lives and the other dies. The family of the survivor feels it's a miracle. The family of the one that died, doesn't mention God except to say they know their loved one is in God's home now and happy. Anyway, taking your question seriously...and I've thought of that very thing many many times, that's my thought on it.

in response to two previous answers....
Why would God punish or cause the death of one person, while there are so many wicked people that seemingly get away with their bad deeds? Or why do innocent people die every day whether it be from war, disease, famine?
It is because the world is full of imperfect humans being ruled by other imperfect humans.
The bible says that man is not even capable of 'directing his own step' without some higher source of guidance. The bible also acknowledges that 'time and unforeseen occurrences befall us all.' In other words, any of us could suffer some sort of unfortunate thing solely due to being at 'the wrong place at the wrong time.
Anyone who has questions about God should delve into their bibles. It has a wealth of information inspired by him. And pray for understanding of these deep perplexing matters. Its truly amazing what he can guide you to understand!

So are you saying that God wanted those people who did step off the curb at the wrong time to die? God wants all the people who die in accidents to be dead? That's the corollary to what you are suggesting. I'm not saying that there is no God, but I don't think God wants Hurricane victims, war victims, earthquake victims to be dead. I don't think God chooses which antelope the lion will eat and which one will get away.

you are still here simply because you have not died yet. i don't want to alarm you but just like everything and everyone else you will eventually.
i believe that the only thing that is real is chaos. humans are not special. they are organic animals just like the rest. in thousands of years of civilization the only things we have accomplished is to find quicker and more powerful ways to kill each other. but it's not all bad. i love being alive, i just don't thank some invisible omnipotent being for it. life is short and you only get once chance at it. make the best of it. live each day like it is your last cause it very well might be.

God has saved a friend of mine from commiting suicide. He is real.
My friend is 16 years old, she was driving in her car across our towns bypass and she was feling depressed.
~"No one cares about you" a voice in her head told her. "No one would miss you"~
So she began to swerve her car towards the rail, which led to a two-hundred foot drop into a neighborhood. But as she was heading for the rail, something (she didn't see anything) reeled her car back into the correct lane.
She was a girl I never would have thought to have contemplated suicide. And God healed her and gave her peace. She told this story to thirty kids at camp one week ago after God touched her life.

To enjoy our moments: Find what we like to do, and do them.
Everyone wants to be eternal, thinks or feels wearing human veil for the moment. We shall see and handle what will come later.
However, we shall focus on our productivity right now, because what we "are" or "can be" now, makes our present time worth living, and who knows, might be transformed into the future too.
It's not worth contemplating if man has no ambition to produce.

He does exist and because He wills it. He does everything for His own pleasure and glory. Even when (seemingly) terrible things happen, or don't happen...
God is in perfect control of EVERYTHING. The problem is that you can't see things exactly the way he does. His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than ours.

Conversely--if God exists, then why do you? Are you just some toy, some plaything of a deity---dependent on its whims and cruelties. IF God exists, WHY did he create humans?

Unfortunately there is no reason on why we exist.
We are born, we live, we procreate, we die. That is all there is.
God give you an answer so you believe in him. You make God your justification for your choices and your excuse for your failures.
Why does stuff happen ........ Because it happens?
