People have both short term and long term memory registers. People often forget anything they really never paid much attention to in the first place. For example, you are introduced to a new person but during the introduction you are thinking of what you are going to say (instead of repeating the name two or three times to yourself). Their name goes into short term memory and is quickly dumped to make room for the next temporary fact. When you search long term memory there is nothing there and you conclude that you have a poor memory for names. You will also forget almost anything that failed to make a strong impression on you. For example, your neighbor's dog walks past you while you are sitting outside but you don't remember when the neighbor asks have you seen the dog. But if a pink elephant (someone's prank?) passes your house you will never forget it. Most people could not make an accurate sketch of the face on their wrist watch (where are the numerals, the logo, the model, etc?). It just isn't important enough to remember even though you see it dozens of times a day. Luckily, the brain is not only the organ for remembering but also for forgetting too. You can't keep it all on the tip of your tongue.
