If you look on the container there is a e-mail address or a toll free number you can call to as for a MSDS. Material safety data sheet. this will tell you anything you need to know about the safety of the product. It is not a good idea to ask just anyone about dangerous materials. Seek professional assistance.

You should still keep your distance and wear proper protection. You don't want to put it on a rag and huff it or anything.
Seriously if you are concerned it's best to play it safe, wear goggles gloves and a face mask... can never be TOO SAFE.

it is no worse than most oil based paint.. no respirator is needed if there is good ventilation.. keep a fan around to for a breeze.. and it will dry faster too :)
very flammable though... and quicky wash whatever you use to apply it.. it is combustible if it sits around on cloths or sponges while dry.. whatever you do.. be sure to wear gloves.. the stuff with stick to your hands for weeks.. and nothing will help :)
I had to dump kerosene and paint thinner on my hands.. ick.. and .. ouch

Define "used". Its a material. If you swallow it yeah its probably not good for you. If you leave it sitting on the ground with noone around then I dont understand the question
