What problems do skin tags cause?

Usually none. This tiny skin growth generally causes no symptoms unless it is repeatedly irritated as, for example, by the collar or in the crotch.

How are skin tags treated?

In cases in which a skin tag is irritated or cosmetically unwanted, treatment may be done by freezing the tag with liquid nitrogen, tying off the tag with a thread or suture so as to cut off the blood supply, or cutting off (excising) the tag with a scalpel or scissors.

It can be removed by a dermatologist. There is no harm that I know of in leaving it, but skin tags can be an indicator of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. PCOS is a treatable disorder and its symptoms include: facial hair, trouble losing weight, skin tags, and cysts on the ovaries. If you have any of these symptoms or a lot of skin tags, I would have your gynecologist do some blood tests just to be sure you don't have PCOS. If left untreated, PCOS can lead to infertility.

yes it can be removed. you can do it yourself. It's gross but skin tags can be removed by tying a string around them really tight to cut the circulation off and they will fall off after a few days. A dermatologist can also do it for a fee (some embarrassment involved)
