Chilton's is a great resource. The thermostat is typically located at the place where the upper radiator hose is connected to the engine. It will probably have 2 or 3 bolts holding that water neck on to the engine. That will be were the thermostat is usually located. It is also good to use a wix gasket, but blue silicon will be fine.

Its a very tricky job! I have a 94 Grand Am with the 3.1 v6 and I took it to a mechanic to do it and I usually do most of my own work on my car. I don't how bad a job it is on the 4 cyl, you didn't say what engine you have in yours but if it's the 6 cyl, take it to a mechanic.

i dont know of any websites but you could try going to your local auto parts store and buying a chiltons book for your car. it WILL explain how to do that and it should have at least drawings if not actual pictures on how to find it/ how to take it apart.
