Many, many years ago, long before the development of the periodic table of elements, people thought that there were four basic elements--earth, air, fire, and water. They also felt from observations that (1) there were different types of people (earth, air, fire, and water people, psychological types we'd call them), and (2) they felt that the stars were important controllers or determiners of life (which they are, in a sense). They put the two together and declared that the differences in people were the result of the times of their birth (and the exact configuration of planets at that time). So, for hundreds of years, this was used as a method of prediction (along with looking at the entrails of birds, etc.). Many of the great early scientists spent many years studying Astrology (Newton spent more time studying Astrology than he did doing science, for example).
Anyway, fast forward to today. We know that there are different psychological types, but what determines them? Genes? Environment? Stars? Planets? No one fully knows at this point. We also know that people are obsessed about the future, and would do just about anything to know what is going to happen. So, Horoscopes appeal to two basic needs--the need to understand different people and the need to know the future--and provide "guides".
Horoscopes can be used for amusement. If you "believe" in them, you are giving them more credibility than they deserve. Some scientists, like Carl Gustav Jung, give them credibility; others are sceptical. As psychological types, the signs can be useful and give you insight into different types of people. Whether or not you are a particular psychological type and whether or not the planets define these types is another question altogether.

horoscopes are only readings-and the best time to read your horoscope is after your day is almost over- if you read it in the morning or the earlier part of the day you will look for it to happen- but if you wait until your day is over to read it then you can put the pieces of the days events together and then perhaps you can identify some events that happened-keep in mind that a day can mean a month or a year in astrological time--

How about believing Einstein then, who said, "I have studied it, you have not." How about billionaires? The Rockefellers said, "Astrology isn't for millionaires, it's for billionaires." And then, of course, there were the maji, and all the quotes in the bible, and the 12 tribes. And how about Evangeline Adams, who was tried for fortunetelling because she did astrology - and was exhonerated because she was given a birthtime of an unknown person, cast a chart, and was so "on" they couldn't believe it!. The chart she did, by the way, was for the judge's own son! And there are many other such cases. But we're talking "real" astrolgers here. And then Edgar Cayce, etc., etc., etc.

well, i don't believe in it all the way but they do get some aspects right. I'm an Aquarius and they can describe an Aquarius's personality and it sounds so much alike. I don't really belive in the daily horoscopes but it is something amusing to read, supossedly telling you how your day will go..

It's simply something cool to read about. It's usually right on in terms of describing a person's overall characteristics. That's what makes it so interesting. It's not something to base your entire existance on, which I do not. I do, however, maintain a strong interest in it.
